Drug testing has been enforced for at least 2 decades in many companies to detect whether company's employees are on drugs. The most commonly taken drugs detected by drug tests are cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines etc.
There are different types of drug tests done these days. Frequently, urine, saliva, hair samples are taken and examined in a clinical laboratory. Drug screening can be also administered on-site, which minimizes company's expenditure and is far convenient for employees.
Thus, one of the most frequently administered on-site drug test is the oral swab. It is inexpensive. The business spends approximately $1.00 for each test. Besides, it is less embarrassing for employees compared with gathering urine specimens. More than that, orla fluids tests are fast. Therefore, the results are ready in a few minutes. In addition, these drug tests are harder to adulterate compared to urine drug tests, since samples are obtained under sstrict direct supervision. Despite being donor friendly, non-invasive and very easy to do, saliva drug tests determine very recent drug abuse. At least 6 types of drugs can be determined in this way.
Another method of drug checking is examination of urine samples. Around 10 types of drugs can be determined by means of urine drug tests. There are three forms of a urine drug test: dip form, cassette form and cup form. The employee's urine is gathered into a specially designed secure cup and sealed with a tamper-resistant tape. After that the cup is directed by express delivery service to a testing lab where it will be checked for the presence or absence of drugs or their metabolized traces.
Hair testing is thought to be accurate and can detect drug use as far back as ninety days. As hair grows out, any drugs used are encased in the hair shaft. Longer hair can disclose an individual's drug history spanning a longer period than shorter hair. Human hair grows out, on average, 0,5 inches a month. Clinical laboratories generally require approximately 0,5 - 1,5 inches for testing. It represents about 30 - 90 days of drug use.
Spray drug tests are especially very simple to administer. They are very precise and hard to adulterate as well. Yet, the number of drugs determined by means of a spray drug test is very limited.
Despite of the fact that many employees and privacy advocates consider drug tests a brutal intrusion of privacy and breech of one's rights and freedoms, drug tests are still administered by employers, as drug use is frequently blamed for absenteeism, health problems and on-the-job accidents.
